Our Story

Our Story

Gilmer County was the last county in West Virginia to open a public library. Land was donated by the Board of Education, and the building was built by Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center students. GPL is sponsored in Gilmer County by the City of Glenville, and receives most funding from the West Virginia Library Commission and from Gilmer County Levy Funds.

GPL is a member of West Virginia's Northern Library Network which allows patrons to borrow from any library within the network via Inter-Library Loan. A Board of Trustees provides library oversight. Board Meeting agendas are posted in our News Section, and board meetings are open to the public.
