Our Story
Gilmer County was the last county in West Virginia to open a public library. The land was donated by the Board of Education, and the building was built by Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center students. The first carousel was built in 1979, and the second in 1989. GPL is sponsored in Gilmer County by the City of Glenville and receives most funding from the West Virginia Library Commission and from Gilmer County Levy Funds. We also receive annual support from Gilmer County Schools.
A Board of Trustees provides library oversight. Board Meetings are open to the public.
