Contests and Grants:
The deadline for this year’s essay is February 1, 2022, so please begin as soon as you can if you plan to enter this year. You will need an adult (21+) sponsor, so check with your parents and favorite teachers (you may also ask local tutor Natalie Thiele to be your sponsor—please ask a librarian for Natalie’s contact information).
If you are in grades 4-12 and have completed the activity packet from the Gilmer Public Library’s Sherlock program, you may have already read one of the texts needed for this essay contest! Grades 4-6 might choose to write about “The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle” or “The Adventure of the Red-Headed League,” and grades 7-9 might also choose “The Adventure of the Red-Headed League.” Check the link for the full list of texts to choose from, contest rules, deadlines, etc. You might win a plaque and a cash prize!
This Gilmer Public Library Sherlock Holmes programming was made possible by a Jan Stauber Grant from the Beacon Society. Educators can check at the link to plan and submit a grant proposal for their own Sherlock Holmes literacy programs for young people. Note: applications for 2022 grants are not posted yet.
